Laserjet M1212nf MFP
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The scanner works as usual (I scanned as a PDF) but when looking at the Preview, the display shows a completely blue/green page and the image being scanned is very faded in the background.  Unable to make out the actual scanned image as the page is so blue/green.  I've saved the file and when I open it it looks the same as the preview.  I want a black & white page.  I'm pasting here an example, if you're able to see it.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

Let's reset the Printer:

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  7. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  8. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  9. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  10. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from these documents:

Hi @Betty0610,

Thanks for trying to work out this problem and with the detailed steps.  Unfortunately, I tried all that you wrote and there was no difference.  You've been the only one with a possible solution so if you have any other idea, I'm willing to give it another shot.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Hi @Betty0610

Thanks for the new suggestion and links.  Unfortunately, this is one of the first things we tried but it didn't work either.  It was interesting as well that when we did this we tried reinstalling the drivers and that link / program to do so failed.  It went to a certain point and stopped (we found others said the same thing in this forum).  In any case, we found a workaround and were able to reinstall but the problem persisted.  We can print but the scanner still doesn't work properly - same green/blue image.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Does this also happen while coping?  You can try updating the Firmware:

Let me know how it goes.

Hi @Betty0610

Thanks for your latest suggestion to install new Firmware.  From your link, I downloaded the latest and then opened the file to Run it.  I got an Error message:

"Make sure the RFU setting on the control Panel is set to ON. The firmware update will fail if it is set to OFF or OFF AND LOCKED. For details, refer to the information provided on hp.com.

  1. Click on OK to proceed with firmware update
  2. Click Cancel to select a different product."

I tried to find "RFU Setting" in the control panel but there's nothing listed for that.

I went into my printer through the Control Panel and there's nothing called "RFU Setting".

So, I went to the downloaded Firmware anyway.  From here, the pop-ups are different than the ones shown in the steps you sent. For example, your pop-up says "Welcome to the HP Printer Update" and it gives an option to check off my serial number.  I get a different pop up titled "HP Laserjet Professional M1130-M1210 MFP Series Firmware Update Utility".  It also doesn't give an option to click called "Update".  It says "Send Firmware".

I clicked on “Send Firmware” and got another a pop-up window  "HP Laserjet Professional M1130-M1210 MFP Series Firmware Update Utility".  My printer is M1212.  Not the same but I was able to select my printer number from the dropdown menu.

It also says "Please ensure ensure the printer is in READY state before continuing.  I did that then  I clicked on "Send Firmware" (there is no "Install" or "Update"???) and the "Progress" scrollbar ran and then I got a Happy Face.  Seems to say Firmware was sent.

But then the only option is to Exit.

I did all this, then shut down the printer and the computer and restarted.  No change.  The scan is still green.  So my questions are:

1. Where is the RFU setting in the control panel. I searched it and nothing comes up.

2. Why, when I download and open the Firmware file do I get one that says "Update Utility" and "Send  Firmware" and I don't get the pop-up window the says "Welcome to the HP Printer Update" as shown in your steps to follow?

3. If after I clicked on "Send Firmware", and it showed Progress with a Happy Face, where did it go?  Was the Firmware sent and now I still have to Run and Install it?

Hope you can answer these 3 questions or give another solution.

The user interface for Firmware Updates is different for different Printer's. As long as you did get the Happy Face, it's all good. It means that the Printer's Firmware has been updated.

Please do let us know if the same happens while copying as well, as we need to diagnose whether this is a software or a Hardware issue.

Thanks!:)

Hi

@Betty0610.  You asked if this is for both scanning and copying.  It's both.  It's only a black & white copier but the copy comes out severely shaded as well.

Thanks

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which helps in resolving common printing and scanning problems such as missing or corrupt print drivers, connectivity issues etc.

Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93

If the issue still persists, you may again uninstall the software and install the built-in drivers:

Let me know 🙂
