Laserjet Pro 200 MFP M276nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Laserjet Pro color MFP M276nw all in one printer. The problem is, when the printer goes to sleep mode, it does not wake up when a fax is recieved.

-I tried sending print jobs when in standby no problem.

-I tried a different fax/phone line, different cables, problem remains.

-Made sure I have the latest firmware, 20150212, problem remains.

-I do recieve fax succesfully when printer is not in sleep mode.

I have done numerous tests to pinpoint the problem, and that is, only, printer not waking up when a fax job is received. Phone rings, its set to auto, should switch to fax after 2 ring tones but it just does not do it, and phone keeps ringing.

Its out of 2 year warranty now, and its a VERY lightly, cleanly and carefully used printer. I believe all my settings are correct after a lot of research, and i see other people have similar problems as well. Hp phone support was not able to solve the problem and asked me to take the printer to service, which is a very hard task where i live and my circumstances.

Anybody had, solved this problem ? please advise.

Appreciate all your time and efforts.

Let's try to perform NVRAM reset.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen. You can try performing a reset on the printer.

I would like to take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums. I came across you post and would like to help. I read that you have an HP Laserjet Pro 200 MFP M276nw printer and it does not receive faxes when it is in sleep mode. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

The printer could be in auto power down mode and not in sleep mode. I recommend you to perform the below steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a solution:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
  • Please turn off the auto power down. Refer to page no. 139 for steps from the user guide.

Once you have performed the above steps, please let me know the results. Cheers! 🙂

Thanks for your response.

I have took the necessary steps but there is no change. What else would you suggest?

thanks

PS: I holded the power button for 15 seconds after disconnecting the power cable per your instructions. Found that weird, should I have reconnected it first, than hold the power button for 15 seconds ?

You are welcome. 🙂 I suggested to press and hold the power button for 15 seconds without the power cord plugged in was because to release the static energy from the printer.

I appreciate you taking your valuable time to troubleshoot. I suggest you to check if the printer wakes up from sleep mode when you give a print command from your computer.

Please enable the Auto answer mode for fax. From the printer front panel menu, Go to Fax setup>> Basic fax >> Auto answer (Enable it). This should work.

Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Auto answer is on and the printer wakes up when a print job is sent. Like said earlier, I have done a ton of tests to problem is, and the problem is 'only', printer not waking up when a fax job is recieved, phone rings, but fax does not start after 2 rings as it is supposed to.

Thanks again for replying. 🙂

Please check if the rings to answer is set to 2. If the rings to answer is set to 2 and if printer does not wake up while receiving fax then please perform a firmware update from this link: http://hp.care/2i56M5I

Post the firmware update, again check and ensure that rings to answer is set to 2. Keep me posted. Hope this works out. Cheers! 🙂

rings to answer is set to 2 and firmware is up to date, 20150212. I have reupdated the firmware just to be sure also.

We will try one more step. Please go to System Setup>> Energy settings >> check for Wake Events. Please check the current status of Wake Events and try to change it to Fax if possible.

Good luck! 🙂

@MKazi

Try to change it to fax? There are a list of 5 events to be marked or not in wake events. Fax is already marked.

Hi, thanks for checking. I did some research in the meantime and found that all options are correctly enabled because the printer wakes up fine when a print is sent to it. I suggest you to reach out to HP phone support to explore the service options for the printer. Please fill out an online form on www.hp.com/contacthp to reach phone support.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again! 🙂
