Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am a graduate student and I scanned some old elementary school documents the last few weeks. I have scanned and saved them through the HP Smart computer app but have not been able to find out where they saved to. I was wondering if there was a way to go back through the printer or online HP Smart or the account I have here to find these scans and re-save them.

I have also been dealing with issues involving my school online OneDrive and might have saved them there but have not been able to find them.

I, unfortunately, thought that my documents were saved, and recycled them after HOURS of scanning them into my computer.

Is there a way for me to trace them back through the printer or HP Smart app at all??

Welcome to the HP Community.

Assuming you Scanned the documents and selected to save the scan content, the choice of folder in which the content is saved is something you'd have to select during the save operation.

Yes, OneDrive, if you have it connected to your Windows 10 account, is a valid folder option.

Search for the files in your account.

Standard Windows Search works well enough for this.

To save the agony of sitting impatiently while Windows crawls through Gigabytes of your account data,

  • Search through one folder at a time
  • Start with the more obvious folder location choices
  • Possibly sort your folders by modified date (this helps because you can more quickly pick out candidates based on when you scanned the documents / data).
  • Search for something that resembles the naming convention you generally use for this type of task

OR

  • Search using the "default" naming convention used by HP Smart (date first in numerical format - example provided later in this message).

For example,

Search for PDF files > first check folders Documents / Desktop / OneDrive

What about OneDrive?

Depending on whether you manually saved the files to OneDrive OR you used an HP Smart shortcut for the purpose, the file might be in a custom / any folder within your OneDrive hierarchy OR it might be in OneDrive\HP Smart

What about file names?

If you did not change the names of the files as saved, the filename typically starts with the date the file is saved.

Date format might be different according to the region in which you live.

and / or

Not really a "file search" software, nonetheless this free software marches through the file system quickly and lists what is stored where (down to filename details).
