The HP Smart interface recently changed and the only scanning option is a pink "Printer Scan" tile which only allows a single page placed on the glass to be scanned.  How can I resume multi-page scanning from the feeder? Other than this, it still works great.  I use a MacBook Pro, OS Venture 13.5.2.

Hi @CindyinSeattle,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

If the scanner interface on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw has changed and it no longer allows multi-page scanning through the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the problem:

Click here to install HP Easy Start. HP Easy Start is the new way to set up your HP printer and prepare your Mac for printing.

Check ADF for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions or debris in the ADF's paper path that could be preventing it from feeding multiple pages. Clean the ADF rollers if necessary.

Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve software-related issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Scanning Software: Ensure that you are using the correct scanning software on your computer. Many HP printers come with bundled software that provides additional scanning options. Make sure the software settings are configured correctly for multi-page scanning.

Reset Printer Settings: You can also try resetting the printer to its default settings.

Restore the factory-set defaults;

 Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the printer and network settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count or tray size. To restore the printer to the factory-default settings, follow these steps

CAUTION: Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also deletes any pages that are stored in the memory.

NOTE: The steps vary according to the type of control panel

1. 2–line control panel (fax models)

2. 2-line control panel

3. Touchscreen control panel

1. 2-line control panels: On the printer control panel, press the button. Touchscreen control panels: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu.

2. Open the following menus: ● Service ● Restore Defaults

3. Touch or press the OK button. The printer automatically restarts.

Refer to this User guide page132

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I have a touchscreen so I went to Service and pressed Restore Defaults but it seems to be stuck "Restoring settings".  The light blue segment is slowly rotating but nothing else has happened for over 10 minutes.

Check ADF for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions or debris in the ADF's paper path that could be preventing it from feeding multiple pages. Clean the ADF rollers if necessary.  THIS CANNOT BE THE CAUSE BECAUSE I DON'T EVEN GET THE OPTION FOR FEEDING MULTIPLE PAGES.

Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve software-related issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. TRIED WITHOUT SUCCESS

Check Scanning Software: Ensure that you are using the correct scanning software on your computer. Many HP printers come with bundled software that provides additional scanning options. Make sure the software settings are configured correctly for multi-page scanning.  THE PRINTER SCANNED MULTIPLE PAGES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS  FOR SEVERAL YEARS.  I DIDN'T CHANGE ANY SETTINGS.

Reset Printer Settings: You can also try resetting the printer to its default settings.

Restore the factory-set defaults;

3. Touchscreen control panel - THIS IS WHAT I HAVE

1. 2-line control panels: On the printer control panel, press the button. Touchscreen control panels: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu.

2. Open the following menus: ● Service ● Restore Defaults

3. Touch or press the OK button. The printer automatically restarts.  ON FIRST TRY MY PRINTER GOT STUCK AT THIS STAGE, BUT I UNPLUGGED FOR A MINUTE AND AFTER IT RESTARTED I TRIED RESTORING THE DEFAULTS.  HOWEVER, THE USER INTERFACE IS STILL THE SAME WITH THE PURPLE SCAN TILE THAT ONLY ALLOWS SINGLE PAGE PRINTING.
