Hi All,
I have a new HP Laserjet MFP M277 printer, and I have successfully configured the scan to folder settings, and I'm able to scan documents directly to the target network folder.
The problem is, the File name prefix 'scan' doesn't work as a prefix at all, and every scan I send to this folder overwrites the previous one, all named 'scan.pdf'
As it's called a prefix, I was expecting that each subsequent scan I sent to the folder would be appended with a number or something to ensure all the files I sent would be retained (and not overwritten).
Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi @GSykes73,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with naming prefix while scanning to folder on your HP LaserJet printer. Don't worry I'll be really glad to help you with this,
After going through your post, I see that you are able to scan to folder only issue is that name prefix doesn't work. Usually it should rename it. If you are unable to do so, then I would personally suggest you would have to manually scan with prefix.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

Hi Jeet,
Thanks for coming back to me.
The suggestion that I manually change the prefix every time I do a scan seems to defeat the object of having a prefix in the first place surely?
If I have to do this it is going to be very time consuming. I often have to scan between ten and twenty documents at a time on occasion. To have to use that little touch screen to manually change the prefix to give unique file name will more than double the amount of time it will take to scan the documents. In fact the process of renaming the prefix takes longer than the scan itself.

Hi @GSykes73,
Thank you for replying,
As I understand you have a concern with manually changing the prefix. I understand do it manually would definitely be a time consuming. Don't worry I'll try my best to help you out.
Let me research and get back to you with more information. Please give me 24 to 48 business hours, where I can try and find out a possible solution for this issue.

I have the exact same problem with a HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw
Are there any news on this topic? We use these printer on many desks at work nowerdays and I would like to know how the collegues would be able to scan more than one document to a local network share and add a sequent number or timestamp to it. It only prefixes "Scannen" as it's set to german. No number, date or time. So every second document will overwrite the previous one. This is a large problem and needs to be fixed.

Upsi - have to take this back. It's working fine. Only the first scan has no sequent number. Second one has. Seems to work fine. I'll go check the printer-display as it tells me the used filename.
Either way - an option to add date and time would be nice. 😉

I actually fixed this myself by renaming the prefix. Once I did this the numeric suffix started to appear with the 2nd and subsequent scans.
Clearly a bug as if you leave the prefix as it's default, no suffix is appended and it just overwrites the previous scan.

Unfortunately the trick did't worked for me
I renamed the prefix but two successive scans use the same filename, each one overriding the previous
Since I'm using the shortcut on the printer panel I do'nt have any option to specify a file name

Same Problem here, the Filename is always only the prefix. If i scan a document the filename is:
prefix.pdf
But it should be prefixXXXX.pdf
XXXX should be increment number.
Any help or did we need to buy a new product?
