When I use the touch screen to scan I receive the following error message: "Username or password is incorrect. Ensure both user account and password are valid." How do you fix?

Hi @pcl71,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is prompting for a username and password when you try to scan from the touchscreen. This is likely due to the scan-to-email or scan-to-network folder settings on the printer. Here's how you can address this.
Update Scan-to-Email Settings
Access the EWS (Embedded Web Server):
- Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the printer.
- Enter the printer's IP address in the address bar. You can find the IP address on the printer's control panel by navigating to Network Settings > Wireless > Wi-Fi Direct or similar.
Log in:
- If prompted for a username and password, the default credentials are usually:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
Navigate to Scan to Email settings:
- In the EWS, look for "Scan" or "Scan to Email" settings.
- Check if there's an email account configured. If not, add your email address and make sure the settings are correct.
Update or Verify Credentials:
- Ensure the email username and password are correct.
- If you've changed your email password, update it here.
Save Changes:
- After updating the settings, save changes and try scanning again from the printer's touchscreen.
Check Scan to Network Folder Settings
If you are scanning to a network folder, follow these steps:
Access EWS:
- Follow steps 1 and 2 from Method 1 to access the EWS.
Navigate to Scan to Network Folder:
- Look for "Scan to Network Folder" settings.
- Check if the network folder path is correct and the credentials are up-to-date.
Update Credentials:
- Ensure the username and password for the network folder are correct.
- If the network folder path or credentials have changed, update them.
Save Changes:
- Save the updated settings and try scanning again from the printer's touchscreen.
Additional Tips:
- Reboot Printer: Sometimes, simply rebooting the printer can resolve temporary issues.
- Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer. This will erase all settings, so make sure to note down any important configurations before proceeding.
Factory Reset:
- From the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset.
After trying these steps, the error should hopefully be resolved, and you should be able to scan without being prompted for incorrect username/password.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
