All my scans come out skewed. Not rotated, but skewed. Everything in top right of the scanner bed is stretched out slightly.

I've verified this by scanning a rectangular grid of 1x1cm squares. I've also attached a version where I've overlayed a reference rectangle, illustrating that the error is more sever further up the page.

What can I do to remedy this, or is it just a replacement that needs to be done?

Hi @perenstrom,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw scanner likely due to a hardware or calibration problem. Here are a few steps you can try to address the issue:

Clean the Scanner Glass and ADF (Automatic Document Feeder):

  • Dust or smudges on the scanner glass can cause distortions. Clean the glass with a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner. Ensure there are no streaks or residues left behind.
  • If you're using the ADF, clean the ADF feed rollers and the glass strip that the document passes over.

Check for Physical Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no physical obstructions or debris in the scanner bed or the ADF path that could cause the document to skew.

Scanner Calibration:

  • Some scanners have a calibration feature that can correct alignment issues. Check the user manual or the printer's settings to see if there is an option to calibrate the scanner.

Update Firmware and Drivers: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that the printer firmware and scanner drivers are up to date. Manufacturers often release updates that can fix known issues.

Check Document Alignment:

  • Make sure the document is properly aligned on the scanner bed or in the ADF. Use the guides to ensure the document is straight.

Test with Different Documents:

  • Try scanning different documents to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the specific document or the scanner itself.

Software Correction:

  • Some scanning software allows you to adjust the alignment of scanned documents. Check if your scanning software has options to correct skew or distortion.

Factory Reset:

  • As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This will revert all settings to their defaults, which might resolve the issue if it's caused by a misconfiguration.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
