Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Color LaserJet M283cdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

MS Win 10 Scan app will not allow me to set the dpi higher than 300 (My work requires 600 preferably and 300 is a death nail). I am running native drivers, glass or flatbed, reinstalled printer/scanner multiple times, searched www.*^%$#@&^&$%#$, watched multiple videos that said the same thing that has not worked and even replaced the all-in-one and still no luck. My settings are glass/flatbed, photo and color. In Hp Scan and NAPS2 I can scan at the higher settings BUT, Win 10 Scan app allows me to quick preview, adjust and crop before a full scan. As every scan requires tweeking, Win 10 Scan is by far the most time efficient. I hope someone knows the fix and someone else knows an application similar in simplicity and workings to MS Scan that does not cost a bazillion bucks. Thank you for your answers in advance. I apologize in that I am in the field with no internet access except 1 day out of the week.

I would like to help

As per the Specs you should be able to scan up to 1200 x 1200 dpi using the Flatbed

I suggest you uninstall the printer driver from root level and download the full feature software and use the HP Printer Assistant to Scan

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the computer and download the full feature software Link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/LJ/M282-M285/LJM282-M285_UWWL_4_1_Full_WebPack_44... and follow the onscreen instructions

Also ensure the printer has the latest Firmware https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Thank you
