It sounds like your HP 8015e scanner isn’t recognizing the automatic document feeder (ADF), even when selected. Since scanning works fine from the flatbed, the issue is likely with the feeder’s sensor or settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

 

Steps to Fix ADF Scanning Issue:

 

Check Paper Placement in ADF

  • Ensure the pages are properly aligned and inserted gently into the feeder.
  • Some HP models won’t detect paper if it’s pushed in too firmly.

 

Select the Correct Scan Source

  • Open HP Smart or HP Scan on your computer.
  • Choose Document Feeder instead of Flatbed in the scan settings.

 

Run a Scanner Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and restart.

 

Clean the ADF Rollers & Sensor

  • Open the ADF cover and wipe the rollers with a lint-free cloth.
  • Dust or debris can prevent the feeder from detecting paper.

 

Update the firmware on an HP printer:

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Test with a Different Document Type

  • Try scanning single sheets instead of multiple pages.
  • If single sheets work, the issue may be with paper thickness detection.
