HP Utility is no longer available - without that how do I, "enable scan to computer", so I can add my new MacBook to the control panel of my HP 8730 printer? I can't find any solutions.

Hi @RobmanM5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To enable "Scan to Computer" for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 printer on a MacBook without using the HP Utility, you can try the following steps:

Using the HP Smart app:

Download HP Smart: Install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store if it's not already installed on your MacBook.

Set up the Printer: Open the HP app, then add your printer by clicking on the "+" sign. Make sure your printer and MacBook are connected to the same network.

Enable Scan to Computer: Once your printer is added, you can configure scan settings through the HP app. This app provides an intuitive interface for managing scan functions.

Alternative Method (Via macOS Native App):

System Preferences: Go to System Preferences on your MacBook and select Printers & Scanners.

Add Printer: Ensure that your printer is added to the list (if not, click the "+" to add it).

Use Preview or Image Capture:

  • Open the Preview app or Image Capture from the Applications folder.
  • Select your printer under the "Devices" or "Shared" list.
  • You can then scan documents directly from your MacBook using these apps without additional HP software.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
