Can't Login to HP Smart Scan -- When I tried to sign the HP SMart "scan" feature into HP account, it opened chrome (my default osx browser), and then stopped at the google page. (not login.3.id.hp.com).

 

Worse, I noticed that Chrome now was covering other apps. I could not open other apps until I force quit chrome.

 

The solution to sign is - quit chrome, safari, hp smart. Re-run hp smart. click login. When chrome opens automatically, CLOSE CHROME.  Open safari. Then you'll see the login window open.

 

Alternately -- quit everything, make Safari your default browser, and try the usual way.

 

Problem seems to be if chrome is set as OSX default -- hp smart seems to be trying to use safari anyway, even tho chrome opens.
