I have a new printer and the small monitor is stuck on the firmware updates page.  It will not let me make a copy with an original piece of paper made from paper from a real tree!!

Hi @Broda88

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Let’s slow this down and get a clear picture of what’s happening before we touch any troubleshooting steps.

To understand your situation fully, I need to pin down a few details about the printer and the symptoms. This will help isolate whether the issue is with setup, firmware, the control panel, or something environmental.

A few key questions to narrow this down:

1. What exact printer model do you have?
(For example: LaserJet 209dw, OfficeJet, Smart Tank, etc.)

2. When the small display is “stuck on the firmware updates page”:

  • Does it show a progress bar that is frozen?
  • Or does it show a message asking you to update, but the screen doesn’t respond to touch?
  • Or is it looping/restarting?

3. Are you setting up the printer for the first time, or had it already been working before this happened?

4. Is the printer connected to Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, or not connected at all right now?

5. When you try to make a manual copy:

  • Does the physical Copy button (if your model has one) respond?
  • Or is the printer refusing to leave the firmware screen entirely?

6. Did you start the firmware update from the HP Smart app, or did the printer initiate it on its own?

7. Any lights blinking on the printer (power light, Wi‑Fi light, attention light)?

Once I have these details, I can pinpoint the cause and guide you precisely without guesswork.

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
