HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer

I am trying to compose a fax using HP Smart app. The software has been hung for almost an hour up trying to attach a document saved on my computer.  I have tried exiting from the fax job without saving it, saving it as a draft so I could start over, restarting my computer, checking for a later version of the app (not finding one), and restarting my computer. No luck. I cannot get around the hung-up job to compose a new fax and try again. Help?

Hi @NocNoz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-In-One Printer is having trouble attaching a document when sending a fax, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue.

Check Document Compatibility: Ensure that the document you're trying to fax is compatible with the fax machine. It should be a physical document, not a digital file. Make sure it's a standard-sized document (letter or legal size) and not too thick or wrinkled.

Document Placement: Place the document face-down on the scanner bed. Ensure it is aligned properly, so it doesn't get jammed when feeding into the fax machine.

Fax Quality: If the document has any marks, creases, or stains, it might not fax properly. Try using a clean and unmarked document.

Document Size: Ensure that the document size is appropriate. If it's too large, it may not feed properly. Make sure it's within the acceptable size limits for your fax machine.

Check Fax Settings: Review the fax settings on your printer. Make sure you've selected the correct sending options, such as resolution and contrast. If the document is too large, try reducing the resolution.

Check for Jams: Sometimes, a paper jam or an obstruction in the paper path can prevent documents from being fed correctly. Open the printer and check for any obstructions or paper jams. Clear any jams if necessary.

Memory Issues: If your fax machine has limited memory, it may have trouble sending a large document. Try sending smaller portions of the document or reducing the resolution to save memory.

Fax Number: Double-check the fax number you're sending to. Ensure it's correct, including any necessary area or country codes.

Fax Line Connection: Ensure that your fax machine is properly connected to a working phone line. If there's a problem with the phone line, it can prevent the fax from going through.

Printer Restart: Sometimes, a simple restart of the printer can resolve minor issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility or performance issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
