I have used mobile fax recently, but today I was unable to scan files to it or upload files to it. Is the mobile fax option done?

Hi @WH421

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with the Mobile Fax feature on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer. The Mobile Fax feature allows you to send faxes using the HP ePrint service via email or through the HP Smart app, but it may have some limitations or might need to be reconfigured if it's no longer working for you.

As of recent updates, HP discontinued the Mobile Fax service on January 1, 2024, as part of its transition to focus on other digital solutions. If you were using the Mobile Fax service and can no longer access it, it could be due to this change.

Here’s a summary of what you can do next:

1. Confirm the Discontinuation of Mobile Fax

The Mobile Fax feature was part of the HP Smart app, which allowed you to send faxes through the internet without the need for a phone line. However, HP has phased out this service, and many users are no longer able to use it for sending or receiving faxes.

  • HP’s official announcement confirmed that Mobile Fax was being discontinued as of January 1, 2024.
  • You can visit HP’s website or the HP Smart app for more information on this change.

2. Alternative Fax Options

If you still need to send or receive faxes, there are alternative options you can consider:

A. Use a Traditional Fax Line

  • If your printer has a fax modem, you can connect it to a phone line and continue to use the printer’s built-in fax functionality.
  • The HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 supports faxing over a traditional phone line (analog) and can be used to send and receive faxes directly.

B. Use HP Fax via a Landline

  • You can continue using your printer’s fax feature by connecting the printer to a phone line. You'll need to go to your printer’s fax settings and configure the fax connection.
  • For faxing through a landline, make sure to check the fax settings in the printer's control panel under Fax > Setup.

C. Use a Scan-to-Email Solution

  • If you don’t need to fax but just need to scan and email documents, you can use the scan-to-email feature directly from your printer or through the HP Smart app.
    • On the HP OfficeJet Pro 6968, you can scan documents to your email address by selecting the Scan option on the printer’s control panel, then choosing Email as PDF.

A. Reset Printer Settings

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer's settings can help resolve issues related to faxing or scanning.
    • Go to the printer's control panel, select Setup, then Restore Defaults or Factory Reset.

B. Ensure the Printer is Connected to the Internet

  • If you're using scan-to-email or cloud-based faxing, make sure your printer is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
    • Check the wireless connection by going to Settings > Network on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
