I do not see where you mentioned your Operating System/version.

If you did, I may have missed it, or your message failed to include that information.

I believe you are asking about Scan as might be started on a printer that includes a full service printer control panel.   ?

This printer can scan using applications or software on your device (computer, tablet, phone).

Starting on Page 56 of the user guide

There is no scan feature that works directly on the printer --

Said another way:  There is no scan button on the printer.

Depending on your device (computer, tablet, phone), you need "an app for that".

HP App, for example, is available on mobile devices.

HP Smart -- Windows -- is still supported (at this writing).

HP App -- Windows -- is available in some regions -- this is the replacement for HP Smart.

Both applications support Print and Scan tasks.

• Check / Install any pending Windows Updates 
• If any updates are applied in Windows Updates, Restart your computer and log in

Next,

Uninstall existing printer software

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
• If your printer software includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.
