HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi guys,

I have a colour LaserJet CM1415fnw that I have loved but now multiple issues seem to presenting.

1. it is powered on, but won’t maintain a wifi connection (I’ve reset it, connected to wifi, then it forgets within minutes)

2. The USB port on the front won’t work for printing.
3. it won’t connect to my laptop for printing. I’ve attempted to reinstall it on my computer but the installer fails. Seems unable to connect to the printer.
4. When I attempt to fax, it beeps but does not act. (I know, who uses a fax, right? Just my wife in healthcare)

is this thing just kaput?

There are no Win 11 drivers available for this printer.
For Win 10, however, yes.
Solution: use the printer with a Win 10 computer.

That is correct. For the connection computer <> printer, the USB port on the back must be used.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

A quick hardware question: When you connect the usb cable from the computer to the printer, does the computer make the usb connection acknowledgement noise? If not and based on your other described problems, you may indeed have a hardware issue. In regards to wireless, are you connecting to a 5 Ghz channel or a 2.4Ghz channel? A machine this old will have issues communicating with a modern 5Ghz router unless you set the 2.4Ghz signal to a separate SSID and only allow the printer to connect to that SSID. The front port for printing from a USB stick must be enable through the embedded web server of the printer.

You’re spot on. I am not getting the USB acknowledgment from my laptop when I plug in.

Also, about the router, I did recently get a new router and finally realized last night that I should manually force the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz to function separately. Alas, it did not solve my problem.

Is there anything else I can do?

Is it worth repairing? I just sprang for new color toner cartridges this summer, but if it’s going to be an expensive fix or won’t last, then I guess it’s time to pull the trigger. It has served me well for 10 years.

Hi,

I appreciate your response. I do believe I downloaded the Win10 driver. I connected to the printer via the USB port on the back.

I guess I was unclear… when I mentioned the USB port, I was trying a workaround to just print from my flash drive.

Any further suggestions?

Not sure on the 1415, but on other models you need to enable the front USB port through the embedded web server, however if you cannot access that due to network issues that will be a bit of an issue. Have you tried wired ethernet to see if that works?

Download this manuals:

  1. HP LaserJet Pro CM1410 - Software Technical Reference
  2. HP LaserJet Pro CM1410 - User Guide

Note: you can use USB and wireless together, but not USB and the network port (wired ethernet)!

Download for Win11:

  1. HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 (64-bit) for USB connected printers
This is the most current PCL6 driver of the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) for Managed Services for USB connected printers for Windows 64 bit systems.
  2. HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 (64-bit)

Read all notes, informations.

Check service, Program Compatibility Assistant, PCA, set to automatic.

Now download this driver (Win10): HP LaserJet Pro CM1415 Color Multifunction Printer PCL6 Print Driver

Important: Basically, the system should always be restarted after a driver installation!

If this driver does not work at all, then use the driver for Win 11, Print Driver (UPD) for Managed Services.
