This applies to 2 installed printers: 8600 and 8740
I'm attaching a screen shot from Task Manager of Startup programs.
There are clearly unncessary muliples installed/starting up.
How do I know which to disable?

hi @markg2
Try this standalone software:
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
This will ge twhat you need - a selection of either printer to use for scan.
Note that while this is a newer software for 8600, it's more datred for the 8740. If you need to use the full Scan features of 8740, then use the 8740 scan software instead of the HP Scan Extended.
Hope that helps!

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
It's multiple startups because each printer is standalone - i.e. independent of the other and uses their own "Scan to Computer" as you have enabled it.
If you do not use the Scan to Computer feature, you can disable it in the Scan Software.
Resources here show how to enable (just disable it if you do not need the feature)
Scan to Computer
Scan to Computer (New UI)
Hope that helps!

How do I create a single scan icon that includes the two HP's on the network: 8740, 8600.
I did this with your help previously on another machine but have since forgotten how?
The other machine has a single scan icon that when clicked opens a window listing the two HP's that I can then select and scan to.
