Hi @Moefitz,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 is copying in orange but printing in black, there might be an issue with the settings or the printer itself.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the color ink cartridges are not empty. Even though you're trying to print in black, some printers use a combination of colors to produce black, so if one of the color cartridges is low or empty, it might affect the output.
  • Clean Printhead: Use the printer's built-in maintenance tools to clean the printhead. This can help remove any dried ink or debris that might be affecting the print quality.
  • Check Print Settings: Make sure that the print settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, the default settings for copying might be different from those for printing. Check that the color settings are appropriate for the copying function.
  • Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. This can sometimes resolve software-related issues that might be causing the problem.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, updating the printer's software can resolve compatibility issues or bugs that might be causing printing problems.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet 6900, 8010, 8020, 8030 printers - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issue...

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Gala1239,

Thanks for your reply. I carefully went thru all the steps you suggested, but unfortunately the problem was not resolved.  New ink, reset factory defaults, restarted, and checked for updates.  Still the same.

I guess I have to call for help.

Thanks again for trying,
