My HP 7645 gets stuck on the screen.  After replacing a cartridge or adding paper, the touch screen does not respond to the pushing the "OK" button.  I am able to print from my laptop, but I cannot scan or copy since I can't set the screen.  I have tried rebooting, but the problem remains.  Any suggestions, or is it time for this older printer to be added to the landfill?

Hi @IT--challenged ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 7645 is experiencing an issue where the touch screen is unresponsive, preventing you from using certain functions like scanning and copying. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue before considering replacing the printer:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

This resets the internal components and may resolve the issue.

2. Clean the Screen

  • Sometimes, the screen becomes unresponsive due to dirt or oil buildup. Use a soft, dry cloth to gently clean the touch screen. If needed, you can lightly dampen the cloth with water.

3. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or by navigating to HP's support website.

4. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  • If the issue persists, resetting the printer to its factory settings might help. To do this:
    • Go to the Settings menu on the touch screen.
    • Select Restore Defaults or Reset All Settings (this will erase all network settings and custom configurations).
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

5. Test for Screen Functionality

  • After resetting or cleaning, check if the screen starts responding. If the issue remains, the touch screen itself might be faulty.

Refer to this document: HP ENVY 7645 e-All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
