Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Envy Photo 7164 will not scan.  Printer only makes copies from my computer.

How can I reactivate the scan mode?

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you. 

If your HP Envy Photo 7164 is printing but not scanning, here are some steps you can take to reactivate the scan functionality:

Use the HP Smart App 
Use the HP Smart app, which is available from the Microsoft Store or HP website.

 

Check Connection Status

  • Ensure your printer is online and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • If using USB, try a different port or cable.

Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support page and download the latest drivers and firmware.
  • Reinstall the printer using the HP Smart app to ensure all features are correctly configured.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)

  • Download it from here
  • This tool can automatically detect and fix scanning issues.

Check Windows Services (if on Windows)

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and ensure that Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) is running.

Try Scanning from the Printer Panel

  • If available, try initiating a scan directly from the printer’s touchscreen to see if it works independently of the compute.
