HP Office Pro 9015 printer/scanner does not scan to email. I get an error message: "incorrect password or username." I don't know how or where to resolve this error.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 is having trouble connecting to your email account for scanning. Let's troubleshoot this:

 

  • Verify Credentials: Double-check the username and password you've entered into the printer's settings. Make sure there are no typos and that you're using the correct email address and password combination.
  • App Passwords: Some email providers, like Gmail, require you to generate an "App Password" specifically for devices like printers. If you're using such a service, ensure that you've generated and entered the correct app password.
  • Security Settings: Check if your email provider has any security settings that might be preventing the printer from connecting. This could include settings related to two-factor authentication or allowing less secure apps to access your account. Make sure these settings are properly configured to allow the printer to connect.
  • SMTP Server Settings: Ensure that the SMTP server settings (like server address, port, encryption method) configured on the printer match the settings provided by your email provider. Incorrect SMTP settings can lead to authentication errors.
  • Update Firmware/Software: Check if there are any firmware or software updates available for your printer. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues or bugs that may be causing the problem. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Firewall/Antivirus: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software on your network or computer can block the printer's access to your email account. Temporarily disable these security measures to see if it resolves the issue. If it does, you may need to adjust the settings to allow the printer's access.
  • Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory defaults and then reconfigure the email scanning settings from scratch. This can sometimes clear up any internal errors or misconfiguration.
