My rpinter suddenly stopped scanning and when I want to scan from the HP smart app it displays the following error message'scan unavailable',but it prints fine..I have downloaded the print/scan doctor several times!

I have a few recommendations 

 

If your printer is connected via USB, make sure the USB cable is properly connected to your device. If your printer is linked to a wireless network, make sure it is connected to your own network.

Turning the printer off and back on can occasionally fix scanning and printing issues

That is otherwise known as power cycling, which can reinitialize a scanner's configuration parameters. Turn off the printer and unplug its cable. Then plug the printer back in and turn it on about 10 to 20 minutes later.

The scanner has suddenly stopped in January after there was an update for hp smart app and shows "Feature Unavailable" error (I have appended at the end of this message). This message clearly shows and I'm pretty sure HP has purposely removed this feature looking at people not paying for their ink subscription. This feature was working perfectly fine before and don't see any reason why it would not work. This is clearly customer fraud and worth reporting to BBB, but I'm also going to name and shame all the places the HP printers are sold and would not recommend anyone to buy hp printers. HP is dying and these people don't have any interest in saving their bread.

This feature is not supported by the selected printer. Connect to a different printer to use this feature.
