My printer used to create pdf documents when scanning. Now I can only create jpg files and I want pdf.  Tried updating drivers, but that did not fix anything

Hi @AboveB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Use HP Scan Software

Ensure you are using the HP Scan software to manage your scanning preferences:

  1. Download and install the latest version of the HP Scan software from the HP Support Page.

Set the Default Scan Format

Change the default file format for scanned documents to PDF in the scan settings:

Windows:

  • Open HP Scan.
  • Select Scan to File.
  • Choose Document.
  • Select PDF from the File Type dropdown menu.

Mac:

  • Open the HP Easy Scan application.
  • Select the scanner from the list.
  • Choose Document.
  • Set the Format to PDF.

Update Printer Software

Make sure your printer firmware and software are up-to-date:

  1. Check for firmware updates on the HP Support Page.
  2. Install any available updates following the instructions provided.

Adjust Settings in HP Smart App

Configure scan settings using the HP Smart app:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your laptop.
  2. Select Scan.
  3. Choose your scanning preferences, and ensure File Type is set to PDF.

Confirm Scanner Settings in the Printer Control Panel

Update the scan settings directly from the printer control panel:

  1. On the printer's touchscreen, select Scan.
  2. Choose computer as the destination.
  3. Select PDF from the file format options.

Reconfigure Scan to Email Option

If using scan to email, set the email attachment format to PDF:

  1. On the printer's control panel, select Scan to Email.
  2. Choose the PDF format for attachments.

I hope this helps.
