Operating System: macOS 10.15 Catalina

Office Jet 4650. Error messages "connection to the compute has been lost or Scan application currently in use or an OCR application is not installed on the computer."  I am also getting a pop up stating "HP Scanner 3 will damage your computer"

another pop up states "Failed to open a connection to the device"

I have the same problem with an  HP Envy  4520 model.  Was fine when I used it a week ago but now scanner does not work and HP Home says printer is off-line even though it prints just fine but will not scan.  I'm not sure if this is an HP problem or a Windows 10 problem.  Community thoughts would be appreciated since HP apparently has no clue.  This all started after I recently gave HP permission to monitor my printer for improved operation.
