macOS 12.0 Monterey

My scanner, which was working perfectly, now is extremely sluggish, stops mid-scan, or does not scan at all. The ONLY thing that looks odd, is that the color copy button is lit, but the b&w is not.

Thanks for the detailed description—let's troubleshoot your HP ENVY 6055 scanner issue on macOS step-by-step:

Quick Checks First

  1. Restart Everything
    • Power off your printer, unplug it for 1 minute, then power back on.
    • Restart your Mac as well.
  2. Check Connection
    • If you're using Wi-Fi, ensure both the printer and Mac are on the same network.
    • Try scanning over USB temporarily to isolate if the issue is Wi-Fi related.
  3. Try a Hardware Copy
    • Place a document on the scanner bed and press the Color Copy button.
    • Then try the Black & White Copy button.
    • If B&W is unresponsive or slow, it may be hardware-related.

🛠️ On Your Mac

  1. Reset the Printing System
    (This won’t delete files, but will remove all printers/scanners temporarily)
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click (or Control-click) the printer list > Reset printing system.
    • Re-add your HP ENVY 6055 using +.
  2. Use HP Smart App (Official)
    • Download from HP Smart for macOS.
    • Reconnect your printer through the app.
    • Use Scan > Flatbed Scanner and check if scanning works better here.
  3. Check for Updates
    • In the HP Smart app, go to Settings > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
    • Check for a firmware update.
    • On your Mac, go to System Settings > General > Software Update.

🧹 Optional: Clean Out Old Drivers

Sometimes leftover drivers cause issues:

  • Go to ~/Library/Printers/ and /Library/Printers/ folders and remove HP related files.
  • Reinstall the HP Smart app after that.

🟡 About the Copy Button Lighting

  • It’s normal for one copy button to be lit—it typically lights up the last used mode (e.g., color copy).
  • If the B&W copy button doesn’t respond at all or blinks strangely, that might suggest:
    • A hardware issue with the button.
    • Or a firmware/software issue confusing the scanner function.

🔚 If Nothing Works

  • Try scanning from Preview > File > Import from Scanner or Image Capture app.
