HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer

HP Office Jet Pro 8715 All-in-one-printer / Hello, the scanner on my printer suddenly stopped working.  It first was scanning with vertical piXelated lines and now has stopped working completely.  What could have happened?  How do I fix this?  I love this printer and have had it for about 6 years.

Hi @lanx22 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the scanner suddenly stops working or starts producing poor-quality scans like vertical pixelated lines, there could be several reasons behind it.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix temporary glitches. Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check Connections: Ensure that all cables connecting the printer to your computer or network are securely plugged in. Also, check the connection between the scanner and the printer itself.
  • Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause scanning issues. Visit the HP official website, navigate to the support section, and download the latest drivers and software for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer.
  • Check for Updates: Make sure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually find firmware updates in the printer's settings menu or on the HP support website.
  • Clean Scanner Glass: Dust, smudges, or debris on the scanner glass can interfere with the scanning process and result in poor-quality scans. Clean the scanner glass carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner.
  • Calibrate Scanner: Some printers have a calibration option in their settings menu. Run the scanner calibration utility to ensure optimal scanning performance.
  • Reset Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your printer to its factory settings. Refer to your printer's user manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.
