Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer

Problem Statement:

NEW OfficeJet Pro 8025e;  wireless setup - signal strength 4/5;  HP Smart WORKS CORRECTLY.

I *CANNOT* scan *FROM THE FRONT PANEL OF THE PRINTER* to my Computer.

From Front Panel I  press SCAN, COMPUTER, see my computer name "Scan to <computer">, "Start Scan", see "Preparing to Scan",

ERROR: "Get the HP Smart App etc."

I can ping the printer by IP address [personal info removed]. I can open the Embedded Web Server by IP address. The network report shows all is good with a wireless signal strength of 4/5. Printing and scanning from HP Smart works fine. But I need to be able to scan directly from the printer front panel. It sees my computer fine by name . . .starts the scanning process . . . but then states that further software needs to be installed on my computer. I see on my desktop that HP Scan Assistant was installed at some point. I start it up. It asks for the IP address of my printer. I give it. It says it cannot connect.

Well it wasn't easy or obvious or well documented (imo) . . . but there are additional drivers that require installation which allow enabling of scan from printer to computer. I really think this should be doc'd front and centre in the User/Installation Doc. At least it is resolved.

I should have been a bit more explicit in case anyone has the issue:

The Installation Front End Software is called "HP Easy Start"

Choose your software and driver.

You will need *one* of these solutions to use this printer with your computer.

It currently has 3 menu choices:

HP Smart (Recommended) - highlighted by default

Full Software and Drivers

Basic Drivers

I thought that this was mutually exclusive choice . . . so once I  had chosed the default, HP Smart, I thought I was done.

BUT - in order to enable scan from printer to computer you *MUST* restart "HP Easy Start", and choose
the *2nd* of the the 3 installation options.  This installs additional Admin software, which has a Scan subsection,
which has a toggle to enable scanning from Printer to Computer.

Not sure why this is so convoluted. My hunch is that this 2nd installed sfotware was the original interface.

When HP Smart was introduced
I assume the hoped for intent was to have a computer-only driven interface to supercede the legacy software. As a result the ability to enable scan from printer to computer was not embedded in HP Smart, and to enable this feature HP realized that the legacy software would need to be installed *in addition* to the next generation software as a workaround.  Hopefully having both installed at the same time will not cause problems down the road . . . we'll see.
