Hello, @cindi1515 - Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I’d like to help!
I see that you are facing issues while printing color with the Deskjet printer. To assist you with this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not.
Place a color document face down on the scanner glass and press the color copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.
If the copy works fine then the issue could be with the drivers. Try to perform a clean install to try and fix the issue. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control Panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control Panel – Devices and Printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Now, click http://hp.care/2t0zUEw to download and install the software.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Good luck 🙂

@RNAYLOR Here's what I recommend you do:
I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, Click here to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.
If the issue persists, please go ahead and install the windows built-in drivers:
If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.
NOTE:
Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.
See the Frequently asked questions in this document for additional information, including how to scan using this driver.

I am running windows 10 pro (64 bit0,HP instant ink.Any thought to get the printer to print in color.I already am talking to my brother in law(HP printer engineer). May be I am to closed minded, but since Microsoft is "requiring" all of us users to switch to 10 then it should be Microsoft technicians fixxing all of the problems associated with their required update. Not myself, after all windows 7pro was running PERFECTLY. WINDOWS 10 is a HEADACHE !!!!

@massmtman You do have a point, that said, perhaps you could check if the copier works as a stand-alone device, to ensure this is an issue with Windows and not the printer,
If the copier works fine and yet it doesn't print, could you tell me what the error is, when you install the Windows Built-in drivers? If you don't know what that is: click here.
If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Same problem. I have Windows 10 (64 bit) and I am connected wirelessly. When I print test pages, they print in color, but when I print pdfs, they print always in monochrome. I used also HP smart for printing, the same problem, even if I select color. Also, I can not print on both sides of the paper. I have to it manually.
