This option used to be on my old HP Envy 7640 printer, and now it's missing from the LDC screen of my brand new HP Envy Inspire 7858e.  I know I can go on my computer and use HP Smart and select PDF from my computer, but I don't want to lose this option that I previously had on the LCD screen of my old printer--is there a way to fix this?

Hi @RP777PR,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the "Scan to Computer as PDF" option is not available on the LCD screen of your new HP Envy Inspire 7958e printer, but you were able to use this feature on your old HP Envy 7640. Here are some steps you can take to potentially restore this option.

Update Firmware and Software:

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the printer's LCD screen or through the HP Smart app.
  • Ensure that the HP Smart app on your computer is also up to date.

Install Full Feature Software and Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the full feature software and drivers for your HP Envy Inspire 7958e. Install these on your computer, as sometimes the full feature package includes additional functionalities that the basic drivers do not.

HP Scan Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer.
  • Go to the "Printer Settings" or "Scan Settings" section.
  • Look for an option to configure scan to computer settings. Make sure the option to scan as PDF is enabled and configured correctly.

HP Scan and Capture App:

  • Download and install the HP Scan and Capture app from the Microsoft Store. This app can provide additional scanning features and may allow you to set the default scan options directly on your computer.

Check Printer Settings on LCD Screen:

  • On the printer’s LCD screen, navigate to the scan settings. Look for any customizable options that might allow you to add or change the scan formats available.
  • Ensure that the "Scan to Computer" feature is enabled on the printer. This can often be found under the "Scan" menu or "Settings" menu on the printer's touchscreen.

HP Printer Assistant:

  • If you have the HP Printer Assistant installed, open it and navigate to the "Scan" section. You may be able to configure scan settings here, including setting up the scan to PDF option.

If after trying these steps the option is still missing, it might be that this particular model does not support the feature directly on the LCD screen in the same way as your previous printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
