I have a new HP 6520 that won't scan or print and makes a grinding noise when starting

It sounds like there might be an issue with the printer's hardware or setup. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

 

  • Check Connections: Ensure that all cables connecting the printer to your computer or network are securely plugged in.
  • Restart Printer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing the grinding noise.
  • Update Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. You can usually download these from the HP website.
  • Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This can often resolve various issues. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.
  • Clean Printer Rollers: Dust and debris can sometimes cause problems with printing or scanning. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the rollers inside the printer.
