I bought a new multifunction printer on Black Friday to replace one in the front office.  Previously I've had a couple of Brothers, a Canon, an HP and an Epson up here, all multifunction because I have to fax pretty often.  I replaced the old printer and set the new one up in the same place, and everything went seemingly OK, except that I cannot fax any more.  I was faxing all day on the previous machine before I set up the new one, and it's plugged into the same line the previous multifunction printers were plugged into.  But it fails dial tone detection, and all faxes I've tried error with "No Answer."  I've tried several different recipients just to make sure it wasn't bad luck.

 

I tried different phone cords and even bought a 2 pin/1 line cord to make sure that wasn't the problem.  There is a phone connected to this same line, but not directly - it's in the back office, and it has never been a problem before, unless someone was on it, of course.  The line works and has dial tone, we checked from the back office.

 

I'm currently using the Mobile Fax option from HP Smart, which is OK in a pinch, but people in the office need to be able to fax without me - that's why I bought a multifunction with fax to begin with.  Anyone have any clue what might be wrong with this machine?
