4520 Envy All In One
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I recently had to upgrade my PC from Vista to Windows 7. I had an Envy all in one printer on the PC while I had Vista, with no issues. When I got the PC back with Windows 7, the PC still prints to the printer over my network.

However, I cannot now scan documents from my printer to my PC like I could before. I get an error message at my printer that says my PC cannot be found. At the same time I get an error pop up box at my PC that states the Envy 4520 cannot be found.  I'm a little confused as I can still print to it. I downloaded the HP Scan Doctor and ran it. When it starts, It shows 2 printers on the screen. 1 is a network printer, and it shows it being installed, but it is not my 4520. The other is the 4520, but the checkbox next to it is not checked off as being installed. The options from that point are to install a new printer, or add additional soft ware. I added the software to no avail. I can still print, but not scan from the printer. I'm afraid to click the add a new printer, as I can print to the current 4520. I have a feeling that will mess things up more, but I am not sure. Definetly related to my windows 7 upgrade.

I hate to remove the printer and start over, because I have a feeling that conflicts may arise that the printer is already installed or exists. Anyone have any experience with a similar situation in the past?

Thanks

Modified Guy

Thanks Greenturtle. Ill give it a shot this weekend and see how it goes. Just one quick question if I may.

As the existing printer was already used on my network, and had previously communicated to my devices I have,

do I need to do anything to the printer to "clear" anything it might have that could create a conflict when I reload the software, or is that not how it works?

Thanks again,

HI @modified1

Good question.

If you reinstall the software, the PC that you installed would be "fresh" with the install.

For the rest of the devices, you may need to reconnect if the IP address changes.

Else, it should work.

Hope that helps!

PS: when we reinstall outr software on one PC, it doesn't affect the other PC or phones. Only time we need to reconnect is if we changed a router or the IP address changes.

That sounds awesome Greenturtle! Ip hasn't changed, network is as it was, before my pic upgrade, so what you have advised sounds all good! Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how I make out in Sunday!
Thanks again for your clarity.

Greenturtle, thanks for all the info. it went flawlessly, no issues, and that did the trick Obviously, something in the new windows 7 upgrade did not get copied over from Vista that I had before. However, the remedy you suggested worked! Using all features flawlessly! Thanks again
