macOS 12.0 Monterey

I have a HP Envy 7640 printer & a Macbook Air running on Sonoma 14.1.2. When trying to scan, I get the error message "No computer found".  I've seen similar posts with the same problem, but printer was different & OS was either different or not listed & problem could be related to the macOS.  I have no problems executing a wireless print job from the MacBook.  Help please!

Hi @Clarkia,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing an issue specifically with scanning on your HP Envy 7640 printer from your MacBook Air. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that both your printer and MacBook Air are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify the wireless connection on your printer and make sure it is in good standing.

Update Software:

  • Check if there are any firmware or software updates available for your HP Envy 7640 printer. You can usually find this information on the HP support website.
  • Ensure your MacBook Air is running the latest macOS updates.

HP Easy Scan Utility:

  • Download and install the HP Easy Scan utility on your MacBook Air. This software is designed to work seamlessly with HP printers for scanning purposes.
  • Open HP Easy Scan and see if it can detect your HP Envy 7640.

Restart Devices:

  • Try restarting both your printer and MacBook Air. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.

Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Check if any firewall or antivirus settings on your MacBook Air are blocking the communication between the computer and the printer. Temporarily disable them for testing purposes.

Reset Printing System:

  • Go to System Preferences on your MacBook Air.
  • Select "Printers & Scanners."
  • Right-click on the printer list and select "Reset printing system."
  • Confirm the action and restart your computer.
  • Re-add your HP Envy 7640 printer and check if the issue persists.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the existing HP printer software on your MacBook Air.
  • Download and install the latest printer software from the official HP website.
  • Follow the installation instructions carefully.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve common printing and scanning problems.

Check Permissions:

  • Make sure that the scanning software has the necessary permissions to access your computer's files and settings

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
