HP ENVY 5532 e-All-in-One Printer

Hi. My ENVY 5532 will not scan or copy. I have used the PC Doctor and whilst doing the scan fixing it stops at drivers and says it cannot connect with printer, which is odd as I have just downloaded the latest package and installed it on the printer. Printing works fine, also by network. Any solutions please. It has been installed and restarted many times.

@elsaboy, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query.

Hey there! 😄 Looks like your HP ENVY 5532 is playing hard to get with its scanning and copying functions, huh? It’s like it's happy to print, but then says, "Nah, not today, I'm too busy for that!" 😆

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Let’s give it some TLC and get that printer back in action. Here are some troubleshooting steps for you:

Check Printer's Connection

  • Since printing is working fine, it’s likely the scanner function is just feeling a bit shy.
  • USB or Wireless?: If you’re connected via USB, make sure the cable is securely plugged in. If you're using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your PC.

Restart Both Printer and PC

  • Simple, yet effective! Restart both your printer and the PC. Sometimes technology just needs a little break to reset itself😅.

Reinstall Printer Software

  • You mentioned that you’ve installed the latest package, but let’s do a clean reinstall of the driver:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your HP ENVY 5532 and Remove device.
    • Download the latest driver from HP's official website (again).
    • Reinstall the driver and make sure to select Full Feature Software during installation.
    • If you're installing via USB, make sure you connect it only when the installation prompts you.

Check for Scanner Software Issues

  • Open the HP Smart app (search it in the Start menu) and check if there’s a scanner software update. Sometimes, this separate piece of software can be behind in updates.
  • Windows Scan app: Try scanning through Windows itself (Search for “Windows Scan” in the Start menu) to see if the issue persists there.

Check Printer Settings

  • Access your printer’s control panel and check if there are any issues with the scan settings or if scanning has been disabled.

Reset Printer

  • If all else fails, reset the printer’s network settings (from the control panel) or perform a factory reset. Warning! This will erase any saved Wi-Fi settings, so make sure to have your Wi-Fi credentials handy.

Ensure Scanner Is Not Blocked by Firewalls or Antivirus

  • Sometimes, antivirus software or a firewall can block communication between the PC and the printer. Disable these temporarily to test if it’s the issue.

Try Using the HP Print and Scan Doctor Again

  • You already ran the PC Doctor (aka HP Print and Scan Doctor), but let’s give it another shot. It might have missed something earlier. Run it again, but this time, make sure to click through every option it offers, even those that seem irrelevant.

If none of these steps do the trick, don’t lose hope just yet! Feel free to come back and let me know how it’s going – I’m here to help you through it! Let’s keep this troubleshooting party going.  You’ll have your scanning and copying working again in no time!

Good luck and may the Scan Force be with you!

Take care and have a good day. 😇
