Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP DeskJet 4120e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have tried to OCR scan on this 4120e printer - it seems that OCR is not available on it. I have researched and found that Universal Scan needs to be installed, and if this doesn't exist in the downloads area then it won't OCR.

I would just like confirmation that this ludicrous situation is in fact the case.

Thanks,

Tim

Since yesterday, there are developments.....

I spent a lot of time on the phone with HP Support. On investigation they said that the 4120 does not support OCR and told me I could buy IRIS software to make it work.

I was no I don't want to buy additional software. I asked what printers did support OCR. I was told the 7900 printers do, in fact any HP printer with a screen.

So I went and bought an Envy Inspire 7921e - about double the price of the other printer, and it has a screen. I have just installed it and it appears this also does not support OCR.

What has really upset me about this is that you can't find this out before you buy the printer, only after you set it up and find it doesn't support the main thing that you bought the printer for. I am not on a bottom-of-the-line printer any more and this is fairly basic functionality that one would expect to have working.
