The 6950 comes with software that can scan text and create the digital equivalent, using OCR. Is there any way to present the text to the OCR software as an electronic image, rather than a piece of paper? For instance, if I have an image of a piece of text in a .JPG or .PDF file, do I have to print that and then scan it, or is there any way to short-circuit the process by feeding the image file direct to the software?

Hi,
The HP Scan software include OCR capabilities while scanning.
Any HP Software does not offer any imaging application to deal with OCR, only during a scan process.

Thanks for responding. But it seems odd to me. Presumably the OCR software is acting on an image it receives from the scanner. Why can't one direct the software to receive an image from somewhere else - a file, for instance?

The OCR interface integrated with HP Scan allows scanning to OCR only.
There are additional applications such as IRIS Pro OCR which allow converting existing files from your PC, that requires a license, any such is not included with the printer software.
