Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

OfficeJet 4630 showing a variety of problems as follows:-

1) When I eventually get it to power up - see below - it prints ok with new HK InstantInk cartridges fitted , but it will not copy or scan . The message here is "Scanner Problem . Turn Printer off then on.If the problem is not fixed the scanner component is broken and cannot copy or scan "

2) The power up of the printer , just to get it into the above mode , is quite a problem .

A lot of times ,on power up, it just comes up with either of the following messages and is then locked up . I have to go around the power up loop again , and again, and again .......... just to get it back to the above half way house state .

a) Error Code  OXC4EB827F    HL_MICCI2 C

b) Printing Alignment Page .....

3) Sometimes on power up , with the scanner lid  lifted the the scanner arm moves across the field of view - from the parked up position on the left - towards the right - and the lamp turns on - it then goes back to the parked position .

4) Firmware version MYM1FN1830AR .

5) From a printer status report statistics :

No pages printed  3063

No pages scanned 635

6) The printer was purchased in approx  2015 hence is well out of warranty. It has been treated well , and has not moved from where it was placed in 2015.

7) Can HPInstantInk , please communicate with my printer - and  tell it to get better !

😎 Just as a last try - is it possible to revert to an earlier version of firmware ?

Hi @OJ4630_B4L03B

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

This is an issue with the scanner mechanism in the printer. This is a hardware failure.

Also, we do not have an option to rollback to the previous version of firmware on the printer.

Try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.

If the issue persists, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Its nice to actually speak to an HP employee now and again . I've been through the power cord disconnection many many times to no avail- except that the printer may not re-power up at all  - not even to just print - as i mention in by note.

I have the latest firmware  1830AR fitted - but i would like to revert to a previous version , can you clearly indicate why this is impossible . Can you please just give me a previous firmware as a .exe file ?  Do HP provide any technical manuals for this printer - so that I can at least i can have some reasonable-ish discissions with a printer service engineer and decide what's what. It prints so well , and with my new  HP InstantInk  cartridges fitted , I don't get any cartridge errors anymore !

Do you have any diagnostic firmware that I can download into the printer - so that if can tell me exactly which part needs replacing ?  As i mentioned , in one of its power up modes , the scanner arm moves smoothly from its parking position  across the scan zone and lights up - so the scanner part of it seems reasonably OK . It looks like some wire or flexible circuit  may be loose .

@OJ4630_B4L03B, thank you for the response.

The only firmware available to download is ver 1830A on the HP Support site. There is no previous firmware available.

Click here to view the user manual of the printer.

Apart from the power chord and ink cartridges, no other parts in this printer are replaceable.

The scanner error indicates it is a hardware issue and also while making a copy and scan, the black output is one of the results of the broken hardware.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
