Same problem as what 78Tiger posted in June 2021 for the HP 8020 Pro.  If a document is placed in the ADF, it acknowledges that a document is there, but using the printer touch screen to scan to computer, the ADF does not work.  It scans the empty flatbed, but does not feed the document from the ADF.  ADF works only if using the HP Smart app on the computer.  The defaults in the app are set to document feeder.  Got the 8020 just a couple months ago to replace the workhorse 8600 that finally broke.

Welcome to the HP support community.

 

I understand that you are unbale to scan from ADF, I am glad to assist you.

Perform a power reset , Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware to install the latest updates
