hi,

I tried to copy (enlarge) and invitation that had some (flat) gold color in the lettering and design.  It's a circle of thin gold lines with leaves and berries along it (green, brown, red) and 2 letters in gold in the middle with a gold date at the bottom.  Between about 6:30 and 8:30 on the circle, the gold was barely visible bright yellow. The letters in the middle were blotchy, and the date was hard to see.  The other colors, including gold elsewhere, were good. I did troubleshooting and:

1. ink levels are all good (I ordered more anyway since the cartridges are >1 yr old)

2. I printed a test page.  It looked good, except the open square in the middle came out alternating black and blue segments.

3. I cleaned the printhead twice.  The second one looked ok, so I printed a diagnostic page.

4. It looked ok, except the cyan and magenta had some waviness to the color, and the black had a small white streak at the bottom.

5. I cleaned the printhead again.  It looked good.

6. I aligned the printheads.

7. I copied the invitation again.  No change.

The circle had been about 3.5" diameter and I enlarged it to 6".  Is it because I enlarged it so much (demonstrate how little I know - the pixels are spread out)?  Or am I having a print quality problem that I haven't solved?  If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it!!!  It's a wedding invitation that I'm asking someone to make a cross-stitch pattern so I can do it for my daughter's wedding - so the colors need to be accurate.  Thank you!

Welcome to the HP Community --

It sounds like copy cannot do what you want.

Copy is a function of the printer -- it does not use software to manage or manipulate the results.

True - Sometimes cleaning requires more than one pass.  Good job.

=====================

Copy

What can the printer do with Copy?

The best you can do is work with the content to try and get the results you need.

Balance the size, the original image content quality, and the printer settings.

This can be harder than it sounds when you are also changing the output size of the copied content.

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Copy > Settings > Default SettingsCopy Defaults

Example - EWS - Copy Defaults

EWS_9025_Copy_Defaults_6EWS_9025_Copy_Defaults_6

=====================

Scan Software / Applications

What else?

Use a Scan program or application to capture and then save the content to your device.

Scanning might improve color retention from the original image.

HP Document - How to Scan

 HP Printers - How to Scan (Windows, Mac, Mobile) | HP® Customer Support

Resist the urge to "over compensate" by increasing the scan resolution beyond a reasonable amount.

For example,

Start (first scan and save) with the standard 300 DPI.

What?

The printer can scan at 1200 DPI -- Doing so is not generally useful unless the original content is also very high resolution.  Yes, the spreading pixel affect you describe could certainly impact scanning low density content and very high resolution.

Next,

Print out the image at the size you want --

Program or App -- Print the saved scan file

Software and Applications depend on -- and are related to -- the Operating System / version you are using.

The tools (programs used to print) are different for Windows, MacOS, Linux, and for Mobile printing.

Printing at a selected size is easier or more difficult depending on the Operating System / version and the available software / applications on that platform.

@Dragon-Fur - thank you!  I didn't try EWS yet (but I will!). Printing enlarged from the application made an unbelievable difference! (fyi, I'm using Windows 10)   Interesting!  When I went to open my file, I realized it was a .jpg because it opened in ? (I don't even know- some Windows app).  I could print enlarged from there, so I did.  The background came out pale grey, but the gold (and other colors) were amazing - very comparable to the original!  Then I scanned the original at 300 dpi to pdf and printed that enlarged from Acrobat.  It was much better than the one I enlarged on the copier, but still not quite there.  The copier enlarged was bright yellow or hardly visible yellow.  Scanned was darker yellow-green, but not quit gold.  Fascinating!  I've got a lot of reading to do!

You are welcome.

The "?" was perhaps Windows / Microsoft Photos -- Photos is a more modern replacement for the old Windows Viewer software that dominated for so long.

Example - Microsoft Photos - 4x6

===========================================

Some print applications include simple color editing (example, HP Smart).

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Edit menu options

Color editing in option "Adjust"

===========================================

If you want to spend the time and effort, use a Photo Editing and Print software to fine-tune your results.

One Free option = Irfanview

The learning curve is steeper than the simpler apps-for-that.

The software includes many features, including precise Resize / Resample options and Color Correction, too.

Reminder "Just in Case"

Resize / Resample and Color Correction edits change the characteristics of the image file -

Save a copy of your original file before editing.

Example - Irfanview - Image Resize / Resample

Third Party Software

Irfanview > Brilliant Free Photo Viewing, Editing, and Print Software

Irfanview provides an exceptional software experience that can be used for a variety of scan and print tasks, including the “Mirror” or horizontal flip function plus several other options not found elsewhere.

  • Create a Restore Point (optional, recommended)
  • Download the appropriate version (32bit or 64bit) of the program from the Website and install the program

NOTES

  • Both 32bit and 64bit software versions for Windows are available.
  • Irfanview is also available as an Windows 10 Application from the Microsoft Store
