HP OfficeJet 3830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been using this printer for only 2 months - brand new, out of the box. It was working fine and all of a sudden stopped copying and scanning. I have tried doing the reset with unplugging the power cord, restarting, etc. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled it.  When i turn the computer on, it makes a loud noise.  When I go to copy or scan, the printer does not do anything. There is no error message.

Hi @ck9206,

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.  I read the post regarding assistance with the p[printer having copying and scanning issues.  I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
  • Did you copy directly from the printer?

For now please try these steps:

  • If you’ve copied directly from the printer please perform these steps again.
  • Please make 1 copy each directly from the flatbed and the document feeder of the printer without any communication from the computer and check if it copies fine.
  • If it copies fine from both locations, then please uninstall and reinstall the printer software. This should fix the issue.
  • If it fails to copy, then please perform the relevant steps for copy related issues from this link: http://hp.care/2fT82w8 and check if the issue gets resolved.

If it does not, then the printer has a hardware issue and needs to be replaced by calling HP phone support.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

I went to the HP.com website, download and updated my printer drivers. A pop up of "print/scan doctor' came up (to the right of my screen) and it reapplied the drivers and now my scanner is working.
