HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer

I have the aforementioned printer.  I have HP Smart installed.  I can scan a document from the computer in HP Smart.  However I cannot scan to computer from the printer interface.  It has my previous laptop.  In fact I see no way either on the printer or in the app to add my new laptop to the printer.

How do I get my computer name to show up on the printer interface, and beyond that how to I tell it what directory to put the scanned document into?  Keep in mind I can scan and print from the computer to the printer.  They are talking to each other.

Hi @MikeU37,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer while scanning from the printer control panel to your laptop.

Follow the procedure if this feature has been disabled, and you want to enable it.

This feature is available for Windows only.

NOTE:

For security purposes, scanning remotely is disabled by default. To enable this feature, in the Embedded Web Server, open the Settings tab, click Security, click Administrator Settings, select the Enable checkbox beside Scan from a Computer or Mobile Device, and then click Apply.

When this feature is enabled, anyone with access to the printer can scan whatever is on the scanner glass.

Enable scanning to a computer (Windows)

1) Use the HP Printer Assistant application to enable Scan to Computer if it has been disabled.

2) Open the HP Printer Assistant.

3) Go to the Scan section.

4) Select Manage Scan to Computer.

5) Click Enable.

Refer to this link for more information. The device might be different but the steps to troubleshoot are the same.

Try to scan again from the printer control panel and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day
