HP OfficeJet Pro 9122e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My OfficeJet 9122e printer when scanning the documents are squint/crooked, only a month or so old but has done this since new.  Scans from the plate are straight.

I replaced an OfficeJet 8718 printer due to this issue (and also because my wife's laptop repeatedly needed the printer driver re-installed).

Issue is common to the 8718 and 9122e which it replaced.  Printer driver for 9122e was installed from scratch so I can't think what the issue can be.

Hi @DaveGandT,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9122e's Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is consistently scanning documents crooked or skewed, but flatbed scans are fine, the issue might be related to the ADF itself.

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

  • Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions: Make sure there are no small bits of paper or other obstructions inside the ADF. Even a small piece of debris can cause alignment issues.
  • Clean the ADF Rollers: Dust or dirt on the rollers in the ADF can cause the paper to feed unevenly. Gently clean the rollers with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol. Be sure to let them dry completely before using the ADF again.
  • Check Paper Alignment: Ensure that the paper is properly aligned and loaded into the ADF. The paper guides should be adjusted to fit snugly against the edges of the paper stack. Avoid overloading the ADF with too many sheets, as this can also cause skewing.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix bugs or improve functionality related to scanning. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Adjust Scan Settings: In the HP Smart app or the scanning software you use, check if there are any options to correct skewed scans. Some scanning software has features to automatically correct or straighten scanned images.
  • Reset the Printer: As a last resort, try resetting the printer to factory settings. Sometimes, a reset can resolve unexpected issues.

I hope this helps.

Not helpful really I'm afraid.

The paper is going through the ADF square but the scanned document is squint so the first 3 actions are irrelevant.

The firmware is up to date - I've checked (and it's a new printer).

I can't see any setting in the HP Smart app to correct for skewed scans - be helpful if you can confirm if the setting is available for the model specified.

I've not yet reset the printer but as this issue is common to the printer it replaced I suspect the issue relates to something on my HP laptop?

I'd appreciate any further support.  Thanks.
