HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8740 which I have used for a couple of years,  and have been very pleased with.  I do a lot of scanning, and recently the scanning feature through the document feeder starting making multiple pages out of what should be a single page.  For example,  if I feed a 4 page document into the document feeder,  it will take one or more of the pages and turn them into multiple pages with only part of the original page on each scanned page.  I use scan extended,  and it has worked almost flawlessly for over two years.

I am using Windows 10,  and a USB connection.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software,  and made sure that the latest software is installed.

Any ideas?

Thank You!

I should have mentioned that I did both of these steps before I posted my request for help;  ran scan doctor multiple times and double checked that I had the latest firmware.

Situation unchanged;  whenever I attempt to copy or scan multiple pages from the document feeder,  it splits some of the original pages into two or more scanned pages.  This product has been a workhorse but now has become unusable for my purposes.

Works perfectly fine from the scanning glass,  but I am scanning multiple page documents all day,  every day.

Thank you for posting back.

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer-related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
