Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new OfficeJet Pro 9130e and there is no options in the settings to configure scan to email. It's a menu option on the printer itself though. Any ideas welcome?

Welcome to the HP Community --

Here we go -- "Any ideas"

Scan to Email Profile setup is now completed in three (possibly 4) steps and in different sections of the EWS.

What?

This printer includes a lot of security that is either preset in place or can be (must be) configured.

That said, if the printer supports SMTP Profile / Email Servers setup, I would think the basic are listed in EWS.

Not finding Scan to Email at all might an indication that the service you seek is not available your printer.

I cannot address whether the option is actually in your printer.

Yes, I know how that sounds...

According the the User Guide, the 9130e series printer is missing support SMTP Digital Send "Scan to Email".

According to the Sales site in your region, the printer supports the Digital option > Scan to Email

https://www.hp.com/au-en/shop/hp-officejet-pro-9130e-all-in-one-printer-404n0b.html

Did you manage to get a model in the series that does not have all the Digital Send features?

Ask the store...

An odd side note:

This is an HP+ capable printer -- it is true that some special features are locked unless you enable (and agree to the contract for) HP+.  I am NOT aware that Digital Send features are only available as part of HP+

Final related note:

HP Instant Ink is ALWAYS optional -- do not sign up for a Free bit / subscription unless you actually want the service.  No matter how many times you are asked -- if you don't want Instant Ink, just say "no", "dismiss", "skip".

Digital Sender Specifications at the store
Digital sending standard features:  Scan-to E-mail; Scan to network folder; Scan to SharePoint; Scan to thumb drive
File formats, supported: PDF; TIFF; JPEG
Send to email capability:  Yes

Were it mine to do:
If you purchased your printer from HP >> I'd first contact the Store and make sure you have the model you expect and purchased from the HP Store. Sample HP Store – Australia – Contact the Store - Customer Service  -- Select a subject type
and possibly:
I might contact HP Support -- I say "might" because these are new models -- there might be help at Support or they might not be able to reconcile document or product specific issues or errors.,

==================================================

Continuing for the sake of the answer...

EWS is a different animal with this printer series.

EWS Stuff is general "there somewhere" -- most everything is displayed in a different format; most items are configurable but "not quite the same".

Open EWS

Web Services is an obscure mention in an odd place -

True - Web Services must be running so that the printer is on the Internet.

EWS > Network > Advanced Settings > Web Services

Just make sure everything is switched to ON

DragonFur_1-1711045240534.png

Next,

Make sure the Scan to Email setting exists and is checked in Security > Access Control > tab Permissions open Scan drop down

DragonFur_0-1711043367947.png

Notes

  • If necessary, Edit Scan Access Control to use Printer User Accounts as opposed to "Use Default" user.
  • Make sure you have a Device Administer type account added to Security > Access Control > tab Printer User Accounts
  • Remember:  The email address you set up in Printer User Accounts is subject to your email provider's security - you might have to switch on 2-step verification in the email provider's security AND create an App Password to be used (entered) in place of your regular email password.

============================================

Next,

Set up your Email server Profile in Category General > Email Servers

Next,

Category > Scan > Scan to Email Defaults

Thanks heaps for this reply. Unfortunately, still no scan to email. I went back and enrolled in the HP+, but that didn't open up the options. I went through all the settings as you suggested, but what is missing is the general -> email servers, just not there to configure. Looked all through the settings and nothing anywhere. On the screen on the printer the option is there but no way to configure.

Thanks for the help though.

This is like my 5th HP printer and I never knew about the new standards of HP ink only, and I thought this did have scan to email as my previous ones. My fault for not researching, just bought what I knew. It'll be the last time for me and HP. I don't do proprietary lock-in **bleep**.

@OzBrewer

You are welcome.

Most printers restrict the ink to HP chipped cartridges -- the protection protocol used by HP is called Dynamic Security

By now, Dynamic Security has been around for a lot of years.  Reference:   HP Printers - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers

Having decided to sign up for HP+ the option to try and reuse (refill) HP chipped cartridges is no longer an option - HP+ customers must install new HP cartridges when needed.   The printer must also stay connected to the Internet most of the time to allow the mechanical monitoring of the hardware.  This benefits HP.  (No, HP does not track print / scan jobs, private correspondence, or any private information.)  The extra year of Warranty coverage benefits the customer -- having the system monitored might mean any hardware issues might be more quickly found,  perhaps prevented, or at least noted.

HP+ does provide some benefits to customers to help offset the annoyances.

For example,

If your region / printer supports it, Print Anywhere (a new tech similar to the old ePrint) and HP Smart Advance  (adds scan options) do add some nice features.

True -- HP+ cannot add physical attributes that were not part of the printer model hardware / firmware.  If the printer does not support certain / Digital send features, signing up for HP+ (at this writing) was not likely to have any impact on changing that limitation.

Disclaimer -- I am not invested in HP+ in any way.  I wanted to avoid it, in fact.  Conversely, I did want access to Print Anywhere and HP Smart Advance so I could help others with those features.  Rock and Hard Place conundrum -- I acquiesced and signed up for HP+ so I could get what I wanted.  Personal Choice.

Reminder

An HP Instant Ink subscription is not required as part of the HP+ setup or HP+ service.

Just say No -- repeat as often as necessary -- eventually (perhaps) the offers will cease or slow down.

=====================================================

Repeat...

If you purchased the printer from HP,

If the Return window is still open,

If you have not done so,

Consider contacting the HP Store Customer Service department (link in previous post) --

Ask for options and whether a series model is available that includes the Scan to Email  SMTP option.

=====================================================

"Last Time"

Sure, I get that -- if you can return the printer and have an interest in pursuing other options, do that.

We might miss you -- we never judge.
