Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Hi - Just got this new printer and this is my first time using Adobe Acrobat to scan. Printer and PC are on my network. I can only access the WIA version and therefore get the (native) user settings and the little window that pops up to scan. I would like the Adobe scanning setting to come up every time (like I used to do with my Brother printer).

I tried to do it with my USB cable, but HP "complained." Everything I've read says I can only do the WIA version which seems to bring up that small window. Is there any way to do it the "usual" way in Adobe Acrobat?

Hoping so...

I believe what you are describing is explained here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/desktop/create-documents/scan-documents-to-pdfs/scan.html

The following is relevant to your printer and supported versions of Windows .

Most third party software requires that you have installed the full driver printer software for the printer.

The full driver provides access and support for the full range of Printing Preferences, Printer Properties, and other elements required by printing and scanning applications and software.

The full driver printer software is unique to your printer.

Printer Properties should be directed (set) to use the installed HP Driver and not the IPP / Microsoft drivers.

=========================

Printer Software - Full Driver

Reinstall the full driver printer software

-- Note --

If you do not want / need the added information, Scroll down to Web Pack Installation

Check / Apply Windows Updates

  • Check / Install any pending Windows Updates
  • If any updates are applied in Windows Updates, Restart your computer and log in

Next,

Uninstall existing printer software

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
  • If your printer software includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

Web Pack Installation - Open Web Page - Full Driver Printer Software

HP OfficeJet Pro 9730 Series EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only

  • Open the Web Page
  • Download, Save, and Install the software.
  • NOTE → If forced to use the "Internet connection required" web pack → If you have issues installing the software, consider using the Microsoft Edge browser to download and initiate / start the installation.
  • If using a USB cable to connect the printer to your computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the software installation process.
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

HP Universal Scan Software - Optional

Separately -- Supported on this printer and Windows 11

Installation of the HP Universal Scan Software adds a self-named "HP Scan"  shortcut icon to the Desktop.

-- NOTE --

If you have installed the full driver printer software,

And

If the HP Scan installed with the full driver is the "new format" (larger GUI and new layout),

Then

In general, you perhaps do not need to install HP Universal Scan -- the version of HP Scan that installs with the software for this printer is a functional match to the HP Universal Software.

That said, if you can't stand it for any reason, the system will tolerate installing both the full driver and the HP Universal Scan software.

When the software is installed, HP Universal Scan Software adds a self-named HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Note

Where supported, HPUSS can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature / full solution printer software.

Open website  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software

If needful, choose a different OS > Open all

Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

Thank you for these very extensive instructions. This is what I got when I attempted to install the HP Universal Scan Software.

And tho' I couldn't do the HP Universal Scan Software, I can still scan but ONLY through the generic scan software:

Meanwhile, I want it to do the Adobe ...predefined scan setting. Like I used to do.  What are my next steps?

@davidwclose

You are welcome.

The HP Universal Scan Software is both Printer Model and Operating System / version dependent.

The software is listed as available for your printer and limited versions of Windows.

No, I cannot explain why it won't install.

HP Universal Scan - Full Feature Software and Driver

Operating systems:
  • Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 11
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Next,

Install the Full Driver printer software.

The full driver includes a usable version of HP Scan.

The full driver supports printing from other software programs.

I doubt your third party Adobe Scan will work without the full driver.

I'm sorry I did not make that clear the first time.

After the full driver is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

(Re)Check Printer Properties to ensure the Driver is set as the installed HP driver and not the iPP / Microsoft driver.
