Officejet 6500 E709A
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Prior to upgrading to Windows 10 on my HP ProBook 640 laptop, my HP 6500 E709A printer / scanner worked just fine!  After upgrading to Windows 10, my printer works, but the scanner does not work.  I have downloaded and installed the latest driver from HP for Windows 10.  Each time I go to the HP Solution center icon, and select "Scan Document" I get the following error message.    "The scan cannot be performed because another program or computer is using the networked HP imaging device.  Try again later."    8, [ (0, 18, -2147467259) ]  I have also ran the HP Print & Scan Doctor and it did not help.  I have tried many other things and am still having problems!  FYI, I downloaded the Windows Scan app and it works fine, but you can only scan one page at a time.  This has to be an HP driver issue, but this problem seems to have been around for a while, and HP has not fixed it!  Any ideas ? ? ? ? ?  Thanks ! ! ! !

Hello @JeffMile

Thanks for the reply!

That's all I have got at the moment. Like I mentioned in my previous post, Solution center being an older generation program is not very compatible with the Windows 10 and hence these issues.

I would suggest using the HP Scan and capture app to scan or Windows Fax and Scan application which is an inbuilt app for Windows.

You can download the HP Scan and capture from here: http://hp.care/2bUVkrw

To use the Windows Fax and Scan, simply search for WFS in windows and launch the app.

Alternatively, you can try using VueScan which is a 3rd party software if interested. You can get it here: http://hp.care/2ghxxnk

Let me know if these helps. Thank you!

Have a great day 🙂

Hello, @HelHowell – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I see that you are having issues while scanning since the solution center is not getting installed. Solution center is an older software and hence may not be compatible with the new Windows 10 environment.

Try the Windows Scan and Capture app. You can go to http://hp.care/2bUVkrw to download and install the Windows Scan and Capture app.

If the Scan and capture is not the desired program, I would suggest you a workaround by changing the compatibility on the drivers to install the solution center. Follow the steps below (Check the fig below for ref):

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them. (Including the HP solution center)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL31304/mp-110035-3/OJ_AIO_6500_E709_Full_Win_WW_140_408-5... and download and save the full feature driver file (Do not run the file, just download and save it to your desktop or download folder)
  • Now go to the download location, right-click on the driver file and select “Properties”.
  • Under “Compatibility” tab, check the box which says “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows 8” (In fig, I have selected Windows 7, but make sure you select Windows 8).
  • Also, select the box “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Apply and save the settings.
  • Now double-click and run the program.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Thank you for responding, I was very optimistic.  However, after following your directions, the Driver wounld not load.  It would get to the second step, "Preparing System for Installation" and just stay there.  I let it go for four hours and it would not get past that step.  Had to terminate the task.  I tried two more times to load the driver and got the same response.  Any other other suggestions????

FYI, when I tried to uninstall the Driver initially, inorder to install the new Windows 10 Driver, the uninstall did not complete.  It stopped on 10/12 in the final step.  It did reboot itself, and all of the components looked like they uninstalled (in Programs and Features), but I am guessing that there were some remnant pieces of code / driver that did not get uninstalled.  Maybe that is why I got the original error.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hello @JeffMile,

Thanks for the reply & appreciate your efforts 🙂

You can perform a clean uninstall of the previous software as suggested below:

·         First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

·         Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.

·         Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

·         Restart your computer.

·         Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.

·         Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.

·         Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer”  – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".

·         Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.

·         Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.

·         Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

·         Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

That should remove all the previous driver from your PC.

Now, try to change the driver compatibility and then try to install.

Also, did you try the HP Scan & capture?

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome

Good luck 🙂

Thanks again for your help!  I did what you asked, but still the same results.  BTW, when I tried to run "printui.exe / s", I got the following error, "The Arguments are Invalid"  Also FYI, I did try to install after I did a "Clean boot".  Any other ideas?????

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks again!  I am confused though, isnt the latest driver that I downloaded for Windows 10 (64 bit)?

Do you know if the HP Scan and capture app will allow you to scan multiple pages without using the feeder?  That is the issue I have with the Windows Scanner, you cannot.  You can only scan one page at a time.  Please let me know if you come up with anything else.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hello @JeffMile

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, the drivers that you downloaded are for Windows 10. But Solution center is one of the components of that driver package and unfortunately is not very compatible with the Windows 10 environment.

Also, I guess you will have to use the ADF to scan multiple pages at the same time.

I will definitely keep you updated if I come across any other updates or workarounds.

Visit us again if you have any concerns!

Thank you again and may you also have a great day and even better tomorrow!
