Hi @HappyPrinter69,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 6954's automatic document feeder (ADF) isn't working, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check for Physical Obstructions

  1. Open the ADF cover and check for any visible obstructions, such as paper fragments or debris.
  2. Clean the ADF rollers and separator pad with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  3. Let the components dry completely before closing the ADF.

Step 2: Verify ADF Connection

  1. Ensure the ADF tray is properly seated in its slot.
  2. If the tray feels loose, reposition it until it clicks into place.

Step 3: Test the ADF Sensor

  1. Place a single sheet of paper into the ADF.
  2. The printer should detect the paper and display an on-screen message.
    • If the printer doesn't detect the paper, the ADF sensor may be dirty or malfunctioning.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  1. Download and install the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Support website.
  2. Restart the printer after the update is complete.

Step 5: Check ADF Settings

  1. Open the HP Smart App or the printer software on your computer.
  2. Ensure the ADF is selected as the input source in the scan settings.

Step 6: Perform a Printer Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  3. Test the ADF again.

Step 7: Perform a Hardware Diagnostic HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix hardware issues.
    • Download it from HP's website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
