macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hello,

I had reset my MacBook Pro and to re-install my printer/scanner.

The printing option is available, but the scanner is not recognized. In the HP Smart App scanning is available, but HP EasyScan does not find the scanner. Everything worked fine before. I have the latest Big Sur installed, the latest apps from HP, reinstalled a couple of times, resetted the printer to factory.
Reconnected the wireless connection, tried everything I could find on the support pages of Apple and HP, nothing worked out. Scanning to computer is not available,...

I tried also the connection via USB, same results.

How can I use the scanner again? Please help me.

Thank you.

FINALLY!!!

After trying again to install, I wanted to close the window before I was referred to the Appstore, I clicked on "close window".
I got 3 possible options: continue, continue with software download and close. I tried the 2nd option and the drivers were downloaded from the HP website.

As a normal user, you don't even get the idea of aborting the installation in order not to be redirected to the app store, but to load the HP drivers. Why is this not indicated in the installer? The selection option should not only appear if you want to cancel the installation.

Now everything works as it should, after weeks of trying and cursing.

Hi @Pizzicato5,

I'd like to help!

I understand that you are unable to scan to computer.

To assist better -

Are you able to scan using image capture?

Meanwhile, Remove any print driver and software installed on your Mac, and then add the printer with AirPrint.

  1. Download and open HP Easy Start.

  2. From the HP Easy Start drop-down menu, click Uninstall HP Software.

Clicking Uninstall HP software in HP Easy Start

  3. Follow the instructions to uninstall all HP software.

  4. Click the Apple icon , click System Preferences, and then click Printers & Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.

  5. Click the Plus sign.

  6. Select your printer from the list.

  7. Click the Use or Print Using field, select AirPrint from the drop-down, and then click Add.

Selecting your printer in the list and opening the Use field

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello Jay_G24,

thank you for your reply.

I already tried this hundreds of times. HP Smart is still installed after uninstalling via HP easy start.

I cannot scan at all! Neither Image Capture does recognize the scanner, nor can I scan to computer.

I can use HP Smart to scan, but this does not solve the troubles with the installation of the scanner, as I want to use HP Easy Scan for convenience. Or any other Software to scan an image.

Before I had to reset my MacBook, the printer icon shows my HP printer, now I just see the standard icon in MacOS. My other printer works fine and the icon shows also my printer model.

Are there any troubleshooters to try?

Thank you.

Thank you for getting back to me with the results-

Please delete from /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/HP Smart. Then delete HP Smart from the Applications folder.

And install HP Easy start

Hope this helps, keep me posted!

I did as you described. As I cannot find any HP folders in the application support folder, I deleted all HP printer related files from the library folder.

After opening Easy Start I will be referred to the Mac Appstore to install HP Smart. The scanner is still not recognized, I only can scan in HP Smart.

Installing the printer without HP Smart brings no results, only printing is possible.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, your solution was not as helpful. I only find a solution after cancelling the installation, where I was given three options to choose. See my post above.
Maybe you can change the Easy Start installer with the option to choose between the Mac Appstore and driver download from HP.

Thank you.

No, thank you. I am happy as my printer is working as usual.
