HP Officejet 7612
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I purchased the HP officejet 7612 all in one as it was advertised as being compatible with Mac OS.
From day one the scanner has shown a scan error despite installs, uninstalls and re-installs and follow up with HP technicians.

I am an artist and need to scan line -artwork at hi-res 600 DPI and above.

The scanner on the Officejet 7612 scans ok till 300 DPI, anything above that and it throws an error.

I have spent at least two to three hours a day in the past few weeks on raising cases and writing to HP.
It has been more than 6 weeks since the product was delivered and the issue has still not been resolved.

@cmodaks, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Which application do you use to scan?

If you are scanning a document from the document feeder, 300 dpi will be the maximum output. Try scanning from the flatbed and change the resolution to 600dpi and check if the error persists.

Hi Kumar,

I am using the flatbed to scan line artwork.

I have used the following applications to scan:

HP Easy Scan

Apple Image Capture

Adobe Photoshop CS6

All give me the same error.Screen Shot 2019-10-23 at 11.12.47 am.pngScreen Shot 2019-10-23 at 1.31.34 pm.pngScreen Shot 2019-10-27 at 2.36.38 pm.pngScreen Shot 2019-10-28 at 5.14.34 pm.png

Did you perform the updates on the printer and the MAC?

Also, have you tried re-installing the printer? While installing the printer, make sure kind is selected as 'Bonjour Multifunction'.

Uninstall the HP driver

  • In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, and then open the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.
  • If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it to uninstall the software, and then skip to the step to prepare the printer for the driver installation.
  • If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
  • Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
  • In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, and then click Go.
  • Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
  • Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, and then select Empty Trash.

Install the printer

Click here to download the HP full-feature driver.

Try Scanning.

Let me know how this goes.
