My printer has intermittent problems.  Send print job and the printer will not wake up.  Send print job and the screen shows a spinning object and does not print, send a print job and takes an extended amount of time to print and then prints a couple of lines and in a few minutes will print another 2 lines.  At times I have to wait 20 minutes to complete a print job.

Hi @MWRichardson,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

Intermittent printing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8030, such as the printer not waking up, long delays, or printing only a few lines at a time, can stem from several factors like connectivity problems, outdated drivers, or issues with the printer’s internal settings. Here's a detailed troubleshooting guide:

1. Restart Printer and Devices

  • Restart your printer: Turn it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer or the device you're printing from.
  • Ensure the printer is connected properly to your Wi-Fi or USB (depending on your setup).

2. Check Printer’s Network Connection

  • Check Wi-Fi strength: Make sure the printer has a strong Wi-Fi signal. A weak signal can cause delays and interruptions.
    • Move the printer closer to the router, if possible.
  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel to check for any issues with the network.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure that the firmware is up to date. Sometimes, performance issues are due to outdated printer firmware. To update:
    • Open the HP Smart app or go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer directly on the printer's display.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause intermittent issues. Update or reinstall the drivers:
    • Go to the HP Support website, find the latest driver for your OfficeJet Pro 8030, and download it.
    • Install the new driver, and restart your computer.

5. Use HP Smart App

  • Try using the HP Smart app for managing print jobs. This app can offer more stability and better control over the printing process.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @MWRichardson ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

6. Reset Printer Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance and look for a Reset option. This will restore the printer to default settings, which may help resolve any internal glitches causing slow or partial printing.

7. Check Sleep Settings

  • The printer may have a sleep mode that isn't waking up correctly:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Power Management and adjust the Sleep Timer to ensure it stays awake longer or disable the sleep mode temporarily to test if it resolves the issue.

8. Check for Print Queue and Spooling Issues

  • There might be a problem with the print queue or spooler service on your computer:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what’s printing.
    • Clear any stuck print jobs in the queue.
  • Restart the Print Spooler service:
    1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
    2. Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click it, and choose Restart.

9. Switch to a Different Connection Method

  • If you’re printing wirelessly, consider switching to a USB connection to see if it resolves the issue. Conversely, if you're using USB, try setting up the printer on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

10. Check for Paper and Cartridge Issues

  • Ensure the printer isn't experiencing any mechanical issues like paper jams or low ink.
  • Try replacing the cartridges or cleaning the print heads to rule out print quality issues.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the intermittent printing problems. Let me know if any specific steps helped or if you need more assistance!
